Sangchen Dorji Lhundrup Nunnery
Brief Background

It is located at a site, popularly known as Omolatsekha, is on a ridge overlooking three valleys of Toebesa, Punakha, and Wangdue. It's 15 minutes drive from Khuruthang town.

It was constructed by the Royal Grandfather and there are 100 plus nuns who are studying there. It was consecrated in 2010 by His Holiness the Je Khenpo.

In front of the main temple is the Chorten modeled on the Boudhanath Stupa of Kathmandu, Nepal. Around the stupa, there are curving 84 mahasiddhis, 16 arhats, and the great lamas of Drukpa Kagyu lineage on black marble blocks.

The complex also houses a permanent higher learning and meditation center for the nuns, where, apart from the religious training, the center also provides life skills training such as tailoring, statue making, and thanka paintings. The nunnery also includes a computer center.

Inside Sangchen Dorji Lhundrup Nunnery

The main temple is 2 storeyed and on the top floor, it's dedicated to Tshela Namsum, three long-life deities; Amitayus(Buddha of Long Life), White Tara, and  Namgyalma. There are also images of 21 taras.

On the ground floor we can see Avaloketishvara(God of Compassion), in thousand eyes and Thousand hands form. Though we see such statues in other temples most of the time it's not the main figure. So it's one of the biggest kind in Bhutan. And on the left and right side, you will see the statue of Guru Padmasambhava, Buddha, and Amitayus too.

There are beautiful wall paintings too. And paintings are of Guru Padmasambhava, Dorji Phurpa, etc.
