kenchosum Lhakhang
Brief Background

It's one of the earliest Buddhist temples in Bhutan. It was constructed by Tibetan King Trisong Duetsen upon the instruction by Guru Padmasambhava for the peace and prosperity beyond his empire and also for the propagation of Dharma.

Guru Rinpoche himself visited Bumthang to design the temple and also for the consecration ceremony. It is also said that he had hidden some treasures and later was discovered by  Terton Beonpo Draksel and Pema Lingpa. In 1479 Pema Lingpa has also renovated the temple.

Sadly in 2010 February the temple was destroyed by fire. It was a great loss to Bhutan's heritage and Buddha Dharma, but the good thing was the main relics were not completely burnt. It was completely reconstructed by the 11th reincarnation on Pema Lingpa Sungtrul Rinpoche with help of the Royal Government of Bhutan and people across the globe.

Inside Kenchosum Lhakhang

The main relics inside include the three times of Buddha which is said to be flown from Kurtoe. This is how the name of the temple Kenchosum three jewels was derived due to the presence of these 3 statues.

Another relic that one can see is the bell, which is said to be offered by Nagas to Guru Padmasambhava at the time of the foundation laying ceremony.
